Men: can’t live with ’em, can’t kick ’em off the planet. So the women of the future have done the next best thing: packed up and left Earth for a world of their own, the idyllic planet Coney Island. Idyllic, that is, if you’re a laid-back sorta gal, which our hera is not.

Meet Tritcheon Hash. Don’t blink or you’ll miss her. Tritch does everything at top speed, especially her job, which involves test-flying new rocket ships. She honestly loves her wife and kids … she just doesn’t know quite what to do with them sometimes. As if that weren’t enough, now her government wants her to undertake a secret mission to Earth — to see if men have civilized themselves enough to be worth moving back in with. (As if!) Anyhoo, will Tritch become the fabled Only Woman on Earth? Ah, you’ll have to read and find out!

Imagine taking a cup of gender studies and a cup of satire, dropping them into a blender, and leaning on the frappé button; this book is what you’d get. It features some surprisingly thoughtful discourse on what men think about women and women think about men, how each gender tends to get along (or not) with itself, and what might happen if they split for good. It also features some ridiculous humor and sharp wordplay, the “green bay packers” being a stellar example.

Tritcheon Hash is a wild good read, with special appeal for fans of science fiction or gender studies. It’s also got enough adventure and gee-whiz technology to entertain folks who more often stick to men’s literature. If you’ve always suspected that the universe had a screw loose somewhere … here it is, and her name is Tritcheon Hash. Have fun. — S.ARDRIAN • 10-12/03
